San Antonio can never go too long without some kind of music festival. Next up to the plate is the Jazz’SAlive Festival! This is where jazz lovers can unite and sit back with a glass of wine to enjoy the melodious tunes that will fill the San Antonio night air. Fall will just be beginning, since the festival is on September 22nd and 23rd, so it may be a little brisk. But hey, that’s better than blazing hot right? Here’s the description of the festival from SAEVents.com:

Whether you’re a seasoned jazz aficionado, or someone who just wants to witness a solid jazz performance, Jazz’SAlive is the place to be in September. The San Antonio Parks Foundation & The City of San Antonio present Jazz’SAlive at Travis Park, Saturday and Sunday, September 22 and 23, from noon to 11 p.m, and noon to 10 p.m. The event features national recording Jazz artists, as well as regional and local Jazz favorites.

San Antonio sure loves their jazz! Again, the Jazz’SAlive event is September 22-23 and is absolutely FREE. See you there!

Hey Costa Bella Apartments! Are you ready for Taste of the River Walk? It’s not necessarily a Labor Day Weekend in San Antonio activity as it takes place next week, but it’s definitely something to keep your eyes peeled for.

So what exactly Taste of the River Walk? For those of you that haven’t attended one, it’s a way to sample culinary offerings from over 20 participating River Walk establishments from 6:00pm until 8:30pm each night. It’s a really good way to become familiar with the restaurants in the area, and to quite possibly find your new favorite restaurant. Or a new spot to take a special someone.

Taste of the River Walk is a ticketed event, and you can purchase your tickets online. Tickets are $25 each night, or you can get a combo deal of both nights for $40. After Taste of River Walk, all are encouraged to go to the Scene in SA Post-Party at Rita’s on the River on Wednesday, September 8th and at The Buckhorn Saloon on Thursday, September 9th from 8:45pm-11pm. Drawings will be held throughout the evening for great prizes and live music will help you dance the night away.

Are you a person that’s really into homemade arts and crafts? I know a few people that are, and they love to fill their homes with various knick knacks and antiques that they’d find around road shows, craft shows, or from various vendors along the road. Oftentimes, these are the hidden jewels of the arts and craft world. If you would like to see some of the newest arts and crafts out there, you may find the Arts and Crafts Fair at the River Walk in San Antonio pretty interesting. Best of all, it all takes place minutes from Costa Bella Apartments!

Hey everyone! Are you a jazz buff? Do you crave the sweet sounds of the melodies when you’re relaxing, or do you enjoy dancing the night away at a jazz club? If so, then Urban Jazz in the Streets may be the perfect event for you.

Cool urban jazz will try to quench the hot summer nights on this Saturday, August 28 and September 4th at The Shops at La Cantera. These performances are a part of the summer jazz series taking place at the Falls, on the east end of Main Street by The Yard House. The event will showcase some of the best talent in the contemporary jazz genre.

Make sure to bring your lawn chairs (as the ground can get kind of hard) and some snacks in order to fully enjoy this FREE concert !

This Saturday, the featured performer will be Nils, who’s recording “Pacific Coast Highway” is the most played contemporary jazz song of the decade with nearly 30,000 spins. Next Saturday’s headliner is Jeff Kashiwa, who is hailed as one of the most diverse saxophonist in contemporary jazz.

The concert starts at 7:30 pm at The Falls, 10 minutes away from Costa Bella Apartments.

Summer isn’t over yet! There are still tons of things to do, but don’t let summer pass you by without going to one of the summertime staples, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, which is only about 20 minutes away from the Costa Bella Apartments!

Six Flags has always been one of my favorite amusement parks, other than Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. I love the thrill of the roller coasters as they take you to new heights, and jet you to valley lows all in under 5 minutes. Sure they’re a little scary at first, but I love the thrill! Well, now I do; I used to tremble at the sight of those metal monsters!

With a coupon from the San Antonio Riverwalk website, you can get $15 off of a full priced ticket. The coupon is good for discounting up to six tickets. That’s fun for everyone in your group! Best ride at the park? The Poltergeist. It’s over before you know it, but you’ll definitely know when you’re on it.

Renters insurance for your apartment is one of the wisest investments you can make when living in apartment complexes.

Hey Costa Bella! Some of you out there enjoy a good run every now and then, right? Then why not participate in a run with some of your friends and support a good cause at the same time? Participate in the 26th Annual Walk/Run with the San Antonio Zoological Society on Friday, September 10!

The race is a 4 – person, 8 – mile relay run through Brackenridge Park. You can either sign up as a group of four of your friends, or you can sign up individually. Personally, I’d sign up with friends since it’s always more fun with a group. Besides, who else are you going to brag to once you win? After the race, there will be refreshments for participants and observers.

The best thing about this race is that you don’t have to get up extremely early to run, it begins at 6:30 pm. If you’re interested in participating, registration fees are $65 per team or $16.25 for an individual runner through September 6th and $75 per team and $18.75 per individual  after September 6th.

The race is benefiting YOUR San Antonio Zoo, so that should be all the more reason to participate. Gotta love those pandas.

Have you ever seen the movie ‘Hairspray‘ with a young Ricki Lake? What about the hit broadway musical? If you haven’t seen the Broadway hit, you’ll get your chance soon! Sure the tour has passed through San Antonio, but this is the first time that a San Antonio company has presented the musical. It opened last night at the Woodlawn Theatre,, about 20 minutes from Costa Bella Apartments.

The show is an adaptation of John Waters’ 1988 movie, set in 1962, about plus-sized teen Tracy Turnblad, who leads the fight to integrate a hip TV dance show in Baltimore. The peppy score includes “Welcome to the ’60s,” “Good Morning Baltimore” and “Run and Tell That.”

They had over 200 hopeful actors and actresses turn out for auditions, which is record numbers for the theater. If you’re interested in seeing the production, tickets are $17-$25. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays through September 12.

Get ready  for some classic entertainment!

Hey Costa Bella! Are you in need of a good laugh? Comedian Spanky will be performing at the River Center Comedy Club August 11-15, so get your tickets now!

Now, I’ve never seen Spanky perform live, but I’ve viewed a video of his, and it was pretty good. The way he speaks and cracks up at his own jokes add to funny factor. Spanky has performed at over 500 colleges, and has 43 television appearances including ER, Profiler, and The Late Show. He has his own TV show in production. He was twice voted the Campus Comic Of The Year, and once the Campus Performer Of The Year.

Even critics and schools agree that Spanky is a riot! If you’re interested in other comedians, the River Center Comedy Club has a full lineup for the month of August. Tickets to Spanky’s show are $15 for the 8:30 pm and the 10:30 pm show. Attend if you can, and get ready to laugh!

Hey Costa Bella! What’s better than going to the movie theaters to see a movie? Going to Slab Cinema to catch a movie outdoors of course!

Slab Cinema has different events and movies going on everyday of the week. Take tonight for example: they’re showing The Fantastic Mr. Fox starring George Clooney and Glenn Close at dusk at the Pearl (312 Pearl Parkway).  This night is highlighting the kiddies out there; There will be free kids activities including arts and crafts, and a visit from the SA Astronomical Association to gaze into outer space. Bring your blanket or lawn chairs and relax on a perfect Pearl Friday night. Save your dinner appetite for concessions and ice cold beverages and treats provided by the Lemonade Co. and The CE Group.

The movie isn’t only for the kiddies though; all the kids at heart are welcome too! These outdoor movies are a great time for all. There’s a movie/event going on everyday next week at various locations around the city. Check them out!
